Taibach 13 Brynaman 20
The fixture which falls after the ‘Black Friday’ celebrations is usually a challenge for most teams but to record an away win of any sort is more than welcome. As the saying goes this performance was ‘one for the purists’ but Bryn’s coaching team will be more than happy to be returning with the spoils ahead of the Christmas break. An early converted try by Taibach gave them the early lead at 7-0 before this was extended to 10-0 following a successful penalty goal. Outside half Craig Jones then responded with two penalties for Bryn as the Greens hauled themselves back into the game at 10-6. Shortly afterwards a well-rehearsed driving lineout ploy resulted in prop Dafydd Hopkins crashing over for the Greens first try. Craig Jones successfully converted as the Greens edged ahead at 13-10. This advantage was short lived however as Taibach kicked another penalty goal to level matters at half time at 13-13.

Although the second half display was much brighter with Bryn showing far greater urgency, strong tackling by the home defence cut short many promising attacks. In the end it took another lineout drive from close range to finally unlock the Taibach defence and once again it was Dafydd Hopkins in pole position to claim the spoils. Replacement scrum half Dafydd Jones added the extras as Bryn regained the lead at 20-13. Disappointingly there was no further scoreboard activity but Bryn can now look forward to a well-deserved break before the next fixture which will be home to Resolven on 3rd January 2015.
